Lake City Humane Society Fundraiser: Moving Forward Toward a No Kill Shelter & Veterinary Care

COLUMBIA COUNTY, FL – The dream of many in Columbia County/Lake City is to have the Lake City Humane Society offer low cost spay-neutering, offer in house surgical veterinary care, and become a no-kill shelter. The Humane Society is having a fundraiser on Saturday night, 6-10 pm, in Ellisville at Truck Stop 75, Ellisville's newest mega truck stop and dining experience, to bring the Humane Society closer to that dream.
Billed as the "Kawz for Pawz," the fundraiser will benefit the James Montgomery Animal Wellness Center to be built on the Lake City Humane Society campus.
Columbia County's legendary Ron Williams is the
guest speaker.
The expansion of the Lake City Humane Society will bring modern veterinary facilities, including surgical facilities on site, and a new and improved adoption services center.
Long time board member Laura Hunter told the Observer, "We are over run with animals. This new facility will ease our burden and enable us to help people that can't afford to take care of their animals. While we are not a no-kill shelter now, we are making progress towards that goal and we are way lower than we used to be."
Ms. Hunter continued, "We are naming the new center after James Montgomery. Mr. Mont is a long time board member and gave selflessly to the Humane Society. Many times he would quietly sit at a board meeting, hear we would need a new computer, and a few days later we would get a check in the mail for new computers. That is the kind of person he is."
James Montgomery is a former County Commissioner and Columbia County school teacher who taught three generations of students. He is a living legend in Columbia County and was a tennis coach and everybody's uncle.
About the Event
The event features music from rock to country, bluegrass and blues, and an array of fine food, and a cash bar.
Legendary District I Commissioner Ron Williams, who began serving as a member of the County 5 in 1982, will be there in his trademark cowboy boots and hat to share some of his experiences with Mr. Mont. He is scheduled to take the microphone at 7 pm.
Tickets are available at the Humane Society, the Lake City Advertiser/AII Things Visual, and Ronsonet Buick-GMC Lake City.
Tickets are $50 dollars each and are also available at the door. It is reported they are going fast.
The event will be held in the new and improving Ellisville, April 27, 6-10 p.m., at Truck Stop 75, 14197 US Hwy 441. (South of the I-75, you can't miss it).
