This year's awards committee chairperson was one of Lake
City's own Sunshine Girls, City Clerk, Audrey Sikes, the
nonvoting member.
The 2010 Lake City awards banquet is more than just
another Lake City annual awards dinner. 2010 marks the
beginning of a new era and a major changing of the guard
for Lake City, which this year saw the election of two
new councilmen, the selection of a new police chief, the
selection of a straight talking hands on city manager,
and a governmental reorganization that is still under
way.
This year's awards categories are:
• Dedication Award –
13 nominations – cash award $150
• Achievement Award – 10
nominations -- cash award $150
• Supervisor of the Year
Award – 9 nominations -- cash award $150
• Employee of the
Year Award – 10 nominations -- cash award $300
This year's awards committee chairperson was one of
Lake City's own
Sunshine Girls, City Clerk, Audrey Sikes, the
nonvoting member.
Ms. Sikes explained that this year awards review
committee members were: Grayson Cason – Admin. Services
Director; Gene Bullard – HR Director; Dave Clanton –
Utility Chief; Frank Armajo – Asst. Fire Chief; Joe
Sheldon – Natural Gas Division Head.
In order that the selection be fair and equitable, as
much care went into the selection process as went into
the selection of the City Manager and the review
committee had individual ranking sheets for each
category of nominee.
Ms. Sikes explained that if a member of the selection
committee was nominated, they could not vote nor rank
anyone in that category.
"We had two people who served on the committee who
were nominated for Supervisor of the Year. They were
asked to leave the room."
Those making the nominations could also submit
documentation in support of their nominees, which was
also taken into consideration by the committee and given
a grade.
Ms. Sikes told the Observer the process was very fair
– very equitable.
The City Manager's right hand man, Grayson Cason told
the Observer, "We had many great nominees. We are all
excited about this."
As Lake City reinvents itself, this year's winners
take on a special significance.
Tonight the anticipation will be over and we will
know who they are.
