Brownfields Assessment Grant
The City Staff met this week with an Engineering
Consultant to discuss the potential for a
Brownfields Community Wide Assessment Grant.
Checkout this weeks City
staff report:
The
Observer highlights Police Chief Gilmore's
expanded weekly report
here.
The grant’s purpose is fund assessment of sites
that are believed to be or are actually
contaminated by petroleum and hazardous
substances, pollutants, or contaminants.
Brownfields Assessment Grants are funded by the
Environmental Protection Agency up to $200,000
and Staff suggests that the benefits would be
highly complimentary to the City’s on-going
Community Redevelopment Area initiative. There
is more news coming soon.
Lake City Community Development Corporation
Project
Joint meetings between the City, Community
Development Corporation (CDC), and financial
institution representatives continued this week.
The Staff has been working with the CDC
for the last six months on a residential CRA
Project on City owned property on Escambia
Street. This area is where the former City Gas
Department was located and is the site of the
Old City Jail and Water Tower.
The vision is for a “mixed use” development
consisting of multi-family dwelling units and
commercial units. A proposal for CRA
consideration may be ready within 60 – 90 days.
The CDC’s mission is to revitalize and
strengthen the City’s CRA District by providing
assistance to low and moderate income families.
