Lake City Florida Man Shot In Face With Flare Gun

LAKE CITY, FL –  On January 16, 2013 at approximately 5:27 a.m., Mr. Enrique R. Cutts, 27, was sitting in a vehicle and was approached by Mr. Cory M. Douglas, 28, and shot in the face with a flare gun. Mr. Douglas fled the scene but was later located and arrested. Mr. Douglas was transported to Gainesville for medical treatment.

At approximately 5:27 a.m. on Wednesday, January 16, 2013, Officers were called to 361 N.E. Martin Luther King Street due to a person being shot. Officer Kevin Johns arrived on the scene and found the victim, Mr. Enrique R. Cutts, 27, standing next to a car bleeding from the face.

Mr. Cutts told Officer Johns he was sitting in the front seat of his mother's car while parked at 361 N.E. Martin Luther King Street. A black male, later identified by Mr. Cutts to be Mr. Cory M. Douglas, 28,177 N.E. Washington Street, approached the vehicle and opened the driver's side door and shot him in the face with a flare gun. After the shot, the interior of the car caught on fire, but was quickly extinguished.

Mr. Cutts could not provide officers any information as to why he was shot by Mr. Douglas. Mr. Cutts was transported to Gainesville for treatment of his injuries.

The investigation was turned over to Investigator Tammy Cox, who later located Mr. Douglas at his residence. Mr. Douglas was arrested for Aggravated Battery and Criminal Mischief and booked into the Columbia County Detention Center on $20,000 bond.

The investigation is still ongoing into the circumstances of the shooting.
