Tonight's City Council Meeting Cancelled: Lake City Reporter Leaves Public in the Dark

LAKE CITY, FL  – Tonight's City budget work shop and council meeting was cancelled last Wednesday afternoon, May 27. An email sent by Assistant City Manager Grayson Cason to the City Council members and other City workers announced the cancellation. There was no reason given. City Manager Johnson was out of town. Mr. Cason did not advise the media.

At 10:46 am on May 28, Assistant City Clerk Katy McCrary advised the Lake City Reporter, via email, that the June 1 meeting had been cancelled. Ms. McCrary included a block ad for  inclusion in the Lake City Reporter's Sunday edition announcing the cancellation.

The cancellation notice never made it into the Sunday paper.

Early this afternoon, your reporter emailed Lake City Reporter publisher, Todd Wilson, and Editor, Robert Bridges: "Why didn't the ad announcing the cancellation of the City Council Meeting ever make it into the Sunday paper?"

The Lake City Reporter, which according to the Florida statutes, is Lake City's daily newspaper of record, did not respond.
