LAKE CITY, FL – Last night in City Hall, City Clerk Audrey Sikes gave City Councilman Eugene Jefferson his 6th oath of office and his wife, Betty Jefferson held the family bible and family members looked on.
Mr. Jefferson is beginning his 21st year on the Lake City, City Council.

In a light moment after the meeting Mr. Jefferson, Councilwoman Melinda Moses, and City Manager Joe Helfenberger were trying to decide how many times Mr. Jefferson had taken the oath. It may be after he completes this term he will be the longest sitting City Councilman in recent history.

After fending off Vanessa George in his tightest race in two decades, a race in which many thought Mr. Jefferson was the underdog, he won reelection in a squeaker in August.
